Maureen Whalen is the Associate General Counsel for the J. Paul Getty Trust; she specializes in acquisitions and intellectual property matters.  Whalen was the co-chair of the Legal Issues in Museum Administration course of study sponsored by ALI-ABA, the Smithsonian Institution, and the American Association of Museums in 2008 and 2009.  She was a member of the Section 108 Study Group convened by the Library of Congress in 2005.  She has taught at Southwestern Law School and the Graduate School of Education and Information Science at UCLA and writes about rights metadata.  Prior to joining the Trust in 2000, Whalen spent more than twenty years in the cable television industry, including more than twelve years at The Walt Disney Company.  She received her undergraduate and law degrees from the State University of New York at Buffalo, and a Masters of Library and Information Science from the University of California, Los Angeles.
